CITIC Pacific Mining | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 1500 | $520M | Australia | SAP | SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central | Core HR | 2017 |
In 2017, CITIC Pacific Mining implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its Core HR platform, migrating from SAP HCM (HR) to centralize workforce records and HR processes. The project extended SAP SuccessFactors capabilities to address high-risk site compliance needs for employees and contractors at its Pilbara operations, prioritizing worker safety and compliant credential handling.
The implementation configured SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central alongside SAP SuccessFactors Learning, modeling compliance documents as learning items to avoid changes to core HR workflows. A fit-to-purpose document management application was developed on SAP Business Technology Platform, using SAP Build Process Automation and the SAP Document Management service to automate document capture, extraction of issue and expiry dates, routing, approval, and reminders. The SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central application provided role-based access control and single sign-on with two-factor authentication to secure sensitive worker data.
Integration work was led by DalRae Solutions in partnership with SAP Cloud Success Services, using design-thinking workshops to establish requirements and development plans. The solution integrated SAP SuccessFactors Learning with SAP BTP, included changes to the Identity Authentication service on SAP BTP, and leveraged built-in BTP development tools and mobile capabilities to support field-facing uploads and encrypted storage. All workflows produce auditable digital records to replace unencrypted e-mail-based submission and manual validation.
Operational coverage included HR, learning administration, and safety teams, and extended to internal staff and contractor populations working on site. Governance and rollout combined co-innovation governance between CITIC, DalRae Solutions, and SAP Cloud Success Services, with structured business rules driving automated routing and expiry notifications. The deployment delivered explicitly stated outcomes, including up to A$300,000 in annual worker productivity savings, approximately 200 days saved in learning administration through automation, and an expected return on investment within six months, while improving compliance visibility and workforce safety.
