1st Central Insurance | Insurance | 1200 | $590M | United Kingdom | Workday | Workday HCM | Core HR | 2017 |
In 2017, 1st Central Insurance implemented Workday HCM for Core HR across the Group with Kainos appointed as the system integrator. The program was run as a group level HR systems initiative engaging all critical stakeholders and external consultants to capture requirements and deliver a bespoke Workday HCM configuration to meet corporate HR and people processes.
The implementation covered core HR and Talent Acquisition capabilities within Workday HCM, with explicit workstreams for HR data loading, testing and verification of data uploads, incremental module design and system upgrades. The HR People Process and Systems function managed operational, managerial and executive reporting requirements and worked with business analysts and project managers to translate process reviews into Workday configuration and business process rules.
Integrations and operational support were instrumented as part of the rollout, including using Atlas ticketing management system to track employee and manager support requests and resolutions, and an operational relationship with Teleopti WFM functionality to keep HRIS enhancements aligned with workforce management capabilities. IT, Kainos and implementation teams collaborated on design, deployment and ongoing incremental module releases to sustain enterprise HR operations.
Governance mechanisms were put in place, the HR function established key performance indicators and success criteria to measure platform performance, and the HR lead completed Risks and Controls deliverables on behalf of the Head of HR. Ongoing responsibilities include managing Workday system design and upgrades, troubleshooting operational issues, and continuously enhancing the Workday HCM environment for Core HR and Talent Acquisition processes.

Aggreko | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 6000 | $1.1B | United Kingdom | Workday | Workday HCM | Core HR | 2020 |
In 2020, Aggreko implemented Workday HCM to consolidate global HR processes and standardize its Core HR capability across the business. The deployment targeted roughly 6,000 permanent employees and 1,800 contingent workers operating in about 180 locations across 85 countries, reflecting an operational model that spans client sites, events, and remote industrial locations.
Workday HCM was configured with five core modules brought live to support employee lifecycle workflows, including absence management and performance and goal management, with the annual performance review and goal setting executed through the new system. Absence plans were rationalized during design workshops, where consultants recommended a lean configuration to reduce plan proliferation and simplify global eligibility rules, supporting a cleaner out of the box Core HR configuration.
Architecturally the program centered on Workday HCM as a central hub under the vendor Power of One principle, with the objective of reducing the number of separate HR systems and connecting multiple payroll providers into a single orchestration layer. The implementation emphasized integration points to payroll and recruitment inputs, and included planned retirement of numerous point solutions to consolidate master HR data in Workday HCM and improve data consistency across HR transactions.
Governance and rollout were led through a steering group and a defined HR transformation that reorganized HR around Operations, Centre of Expertise and Business Partners, accompanied by process standardization and change management. Kainos served as the systems integrator and led delivery using Workday best practice, guiding configuration discipline, knowledge transfer, and a self-sufficient support model. Early outcomes cited in the program included strong uptake, completion of major annual HR processes in Workday HCM, and emerging internal support capability, while change management was highlighted as a key implementation focus.
