Eastman Chemical | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 14000 | $9.4B | United States | SAP | SAP Business Planning and Consolidation | EPM | 2016 |
In 2016 Eastman Chemical deployed SAP Business Planning and Consolidation optimized for SAP S/4HANA Finance as its enterprise planning solution, implementing the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation application to centralize planning across its global operations. This EPM initiative was led with implementation partner TruQua and targeted replacement of the existing SAP BPC 7.5 for Microsoft platform to establish an embedded, S/4HANA-aligned planning architecture.
The deployed architecture uses an Embedded BPC model on SAP BW running on a HANA sidecar in the cloud, leveraging SLT for real-time replication of ERP and third party data into HANA. HANA views and custom calculation views were built on replicated tables, BW virtual providers were configured to read transaction data directly from HANA views, and BW-IP with the Planning Application Kit provided planning execution and logic. Analysis for Office was standardized as the consolidated front-end for reporting, planning input and Excel-based analytics, and the implementation adopted the new /ERP/ InfoObject namespace to align BPC models with S/4HANA Finance.
Functional capabilities implemented included Forecast Quantity, Revenue and Cost Reporting, P&L Planning and Actuals, Pricing analytics and price planning, and Product Cost and Cost Allocation modeling to produce detailed manufacturing margin and COGS views. The solution supported a 24 month rolling forecast driven by S&OP consensus demand from APO, integrated cost estimates from ERP, and non-SAP data marts, while enabling real-time currency and unit of measure conversions. Design choices emphasized view-based modeling to eliminate large batch ETL, enable live-cache access for APO planning data, and maintain master data consistency across planning, transaction and analytical layers.
Governance and delivery emphasized cross-functional skills across HANA, BW, SLT, BPC and security, with TruQua providing technical leadership and close alignment with SAP. The project adopted iterative prototyping, strict control of flexibility in solution design, and designated security ownership to accelerate deployment. Explicit outcomes documented from the implementation include alignment of S&OP and financial planning for an integrated business planning process, reduced manual and batch interfaces, decreased forecast cycle time, improved visibility into detailed drivers for decision making, improved forecast accuracy, and preparation of planning models for future migration to SAP S/4HANA Finance.

Eastman Chemical | Oil, Gas and Chemicals | 14000 | $9.4B | United States | SAP | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | 2016 |
In 2016, Eastman Chemical began an implementation to adopt SAP S/4 HANA and deploy SAP Business Planning and Consolidation optimized for SAP S/4HANA Finance, with TruQua as the implementation partner. The program targeted integrated business planning across finance and S&OP for a global specialty chemical company with approximately 15,000 employees and about 50 manufacturing sites, positioning SAP S/4 HANA as the ERP Financial backbone for planning and consolidation.
The implementation used an embedded BPC architecture in SAP BW on a HANA sidecar in the cloud, leveraging BW Integrated Planning and the Planning Application Kit for planning capabilities. Front end and user interaction were delivered through SAP Analysis for Office, and planning models delivered in phase one included Forecast Quantity, Revenue and Cost Reporting, P&L Planning and Actuals, Pricing and Cost Planning, aligning planning workflows with the ERP Financial model in SAP S/4 HANA. Design considerations included adoption of the new /ERP/ InfoObject namespace for S/4HANA BPC models to ensure future compatibility with SAP S/4 HANA Finance.
The technical architecture replicated transactional and master data into HANA using SLT, creating HANA views and HANA Live content on top of replicated tables to provide real time visibility and eliminate batch ETL and redundant storage. The solution integrated APO consensus demand and live cache planning data, ERP cost and product costing data, and Eastman non SAP data marts into HANA, with custom HANA calculation views, stored procedures and table functions to satisfy business requirements. SAP BW virtual providers read HANA views to enable real time reporting and analytics while reducing data persistence in BW.
Governance and delivery emphasized cross discipline skills including HANA, BW, SLT, BPC, security, ABAP and HANA SQL development, with an iterative design approach and production like data used for validation and prototyping. The project called for clear security ownership, short communication lines, and careful control of flexibility in solution design, while TruQua provided integration and BW on HANA expertise and close alignment with SAP for escalation and issue resolution.
Documented outcomes included alignment of S&OP and financial planning for an integrated business planning process, improved pricing and reporting along business and industry hierarchies, elimination or reduction of manual and batch interfaces, reduced forecasting cycle time and increased forecasting efficiency and accuracy. The project also surfaced risks and challenges that included a steep learning curve across multiple new tools, occasional product defects and integration gaps when building custom functionality, field length and master data lookup constraints between BW and HANA views, and the need to determine the optimal layer for functions such as unit of measure and currency conversion.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company | Utilities | 28410 | $24.4B | United States | SAP | SAP Business Planning and Consolidation | EPM | 2017 |
In 2017, Pacific Gas and Electric Company upgraded to SAP Business Planning and Consolidation as part of an enterprise EPM initiative. The upgrade targeted SAP BusinessObjects Planning & Consolidation 10.1, Version for SAP NetWeaver from SAP, and the implementation was executed with TruQua as the system integrator.
The deployment implemented core EPM capabilities in SAP Business Planning and Consolidation including integrated planning, budgeting, forecasting, consolidation and financial close models. Configuration leveraged BPC 10.1 dimension management, native scripting for business rules, and version control to support standard finance workflows and scenario modeling.
Architecturally the solution was provisioned on the SAP NetWeaver application stack consistent with BPC for NetWeaver patterns, providing a centralized model repository and controlled calculation manager for the finance environment. The implementation focused on enterprise finance coverage within Pacific Gas and Electric Company, aligning planning and consolidation models to the companys corporate finance organization and reporting structures.
TruQua led a phased upgrade and rollout approach that centralized model governance, established role based access controls, and introduced auditability and change control within the EPM platform. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation is positioned as the primary EPM application for PG&Es finance function, replacing previous planning and consolidation processes through a structured upgrade to BPC 10.1.
