In 2020, Department for Education implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its ERP Financial platform. The recorded engagement shows consultant activity beginning January 2020 with development and configuration work focused on Business Central extensions and API surface area, reflecting a multi year contract presence in Coventry, England.
The Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central deployment emphasized core financial management capabilities typical of ERP Financial systems, including general ledger configuration, accounts payable and receivable workflows, procurement transaction handling, and operational reporting. Development work used C/AL and AL for Business Central customizations, and Business Central Extensions were authored to adapt base finance processes to departmental controls.
Integrations were centered on Business Central API interactions and Azure based tooling, with Microsoft Azure API Management used to mediate external API calls and Microsoft DevOps applied for source control and continuous delivery. Reporting and document automation components included Jet Reports for financial reporting and Continia Document Capture for purchase invoice ingestion and document processing.
Governance and rollout practices reflected developer led CI CD pipelines and API governance, with configuration management and change control coordinated through Microsoft DevOps. Operational ownership aligned to finance and procurement functions, and the implementation narrative centers on packaged ERP Financial capabilities extended through Business Central Extensions and API integration patterns.

| Workday | Legacy | Workday Absence Management | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2018 | 2020 |
In 2018, Department for Education implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a broader Workday HCM, Payroll and Expenses deployment. The Workday Absence Management implementation addressed Absence and Leave Management within the Department for Education HR function and was delivered alongside HCM, Benefits and Compensation modules to support end to end employee absence and entitlement workflows for the organisation’s workforce of 7,298 employees in the United Kingdom.
The deployment included configuration of core absence capabilities such as absence request and approval business processes, entitlement and accrual rules, absence type definitions and configurable condition rules. The team extended Workday Absence Management using Workday Assistant, change job templates, Workday Today dashboards and custom fields where required, and leveraged report writer skills to produce absence reporting for SMEs and HR management.
Operational integration and data movement used Workday EIBs for bulk data uploads to support the catch up data migration strand, and the absence capability was implemented to operate tightly with the Workday HCM, Payroll and Benefits modules delivered at go live. Post go live support was organized into a tiered model with Workday Assistants handling tier 1 and tier 2 queries and Workday Developers covering tier 3 system optimisation and technical configuration changes.
Governance and rollout followed established testing and release discipline, including functional and regression testing, test fix retest cycles, bi annual Workday upgrades and impact assessment of change requests to inform resource implications and delivery timescales. The implementation also established security groups and configurable security models, upskilled HR users through practical knowledge sessions, and created a product development roadmap to prioritise ongoing system optimisation with SMEs and technical consultants.
