In 2021 IKEA began a worldwide implementation of SAP S/4 HANA. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment targeted ERP Financial capabilities to support Order to Cash, Record to Report, and Procure to Pay business functions across INGKA and IKEA entities.
Implementation scope included configuration and architecture work around core finance and transactional modules, with explicit emphasis on OTC, RTR and PTP flows. Architects defined module configuration, HANA data models and integration patterns using SAP BTP and SAP Cloud Platform SCP to align finance and order flows. SAP S/4 HANA was instrumented with interfaces and automation for OTC, RTR and PTP workflows.
Integration specifications covered a broad set of middleware and cloud technologies explicitly including HANA, SAP PI/PO, SAP CPI, AIF, SAC, AWS and GCP. End to End monitoring for SAP and non SAP systems was designed using Splunk and additional monitoring tools, and a data warehouse was created to consolidate orders from SAP to non SAP systems for audit and reconciliation.
The Chief Architect role at IKEA drove creation of the S/4 HANA strategy and roadmap, managed detailed integration specifications, and acted as integration architect for the worldwide S/4 HANA project. Governance artifacts produced included guidelines, best practices, coding standards and decision trees developed for global rollout and for integration domain governance. Those artifacts governed integration specifications and monitoring design across SAP S/4 HANA and supporting cloud platforms.

In 2017 IKEA deployed IBM Maximo to manage its facilities and equipment under an Enterprise Asset Management program. The deployment positioned IBM Maximo Asset Management as the primary system for coordinating retail store and restaurant equipment operations, addressing maintenance issues across HVAC, escalators, elevators, revolving doors, dish room and kitchen equipment, and other site assets.
Configuration emphasized work order management and vendor management capabilities within IBM Maximo Asset Management, including preventive maintenance scheduling, warranty tracking, and creation of purchase orders to process vendor invoices for goods and services tied to facilities operations projects. The implementation addressed contractor coordination and service issue workflows to support on-site technicians and facilities teams.
Operational coverage centered on store-level facilities and restaurant operations, with teams monitoring site maintenance issues from the company service request system through IBM Maximo Asset Management and CAFM functionality. The environment supported frontline troubleshooting of I.T. issues before escalation to the corporate I.T. organization, and coordination with commercial design teams for floor set changes, modifications and repairs.
Governance was organized around ticket lifecycle and contractor dispatch workflows, warranty follow-up processes, and procurement steps for purchase order generation and vendor invoice handling. IBM acted as the software vendor for the Enterprise Asset Management deployment, and the implementation focused on aligning facilities, vendor management, procurement, and commercial design workflows within Maximo.
