Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations ERP Financial ERP n/a 2018 2018
In 2018, Illinois Tool Works implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as its ERP Financial solution for the ITW Alpine division. The program was led by a Program Manager who served as lead Project Manager and Business Analyst for the ERP implementation and organized a two phase rollout, first across six U.S. locations and second for Canadian operations. The implementation focused on establishing core finance and operations workflows aligned to the ERP Financial category, with configuration and business process alignment from plant floor activities through executive reporting. Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations was configured to support core financial management and operational transaction processing typical of ERP Financial deployments. Workstreams emphasized chart of accounts design, transactional controls, and operational workflow mapping, with the program manager building relationships across manufacturing sites and corporate functions to drive requirements and validation. Testing and cutover planning reflected phased regional sequencing to isolate operational risk between the U.S. and Canada deployments. Operational coverage included oversight of IT operations across seven U.S. locations, with day to day production support retained with a managed service provider. The program manager maintained accountability for a division IT budget of $1.2M annually while consolidating services and service providers to simplify the infrastructure architecture. This support model combined centralized ERP application governance with local site engagement to sustain operations after go live. Governance and rollout practices centered on phased regional deployment, cross functional validation from plant to executive levels, and consolidation of infrastructure services. The implementation streamlined and simplified infrastructure architecture by consolidating services and service providers, and ongoing support was managed through the retained managed service provider model. Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations and the ERP Financial implementation therefore established a unified finance and operations platform for the ITW Alpine division across the specified U.S. and Canadian sites.

In 2022, Illinois Tool Works implemented OnitX ELM to centralize Legal Practice Management across its corporate legal operations. The OnitX ELM deployment focused on establishing a single system of record for matter intake, matter lifecycle tracking, and legal service request orchestration to support in house counsel and legal operations workflows at ITW. OnitX ELM was configured with core Legal Practice Management capabilities including matter management, docketing and calendar controls, e billing and invoice review workflows, document management, automated approval routing, and reporting to support legal spend visibility.
