| Onit | Legacy | OnitX ELM | Legal Practice Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2022 | 2022 |
In 2022, Illinois Tool Works implemented OnitX ELM to centralize Legal Practice Management across its corporate legal operations. The OnitX ELM deployment focused on establishing a single system of record for matter intake, matter lifecycle tracking, and legal service request orchestration to support in house counsel and legal operations workflows at ITW.
OnitX ELM was configured with core Legal Practice Management capabilities including matter management, docketing and calendar controls, e billing and invoice review workflows, document management, automated approval routing, and reporting to support legal spend visibility. Configuration efforts emphasized standardized templates, role based access controls, and workflow automation to streamline intake to resolution processes.
The implementation accounted for ITW business applications already in use by other functions, and was aligned with existing sales and marketing systems such as Salesforce and HubSpot while incorporating the SimpleLegal components following the SimpleLegal and Onit combination. Integrations and data exchange points were scoped to bring request context and basic business metadata into OnitX ELM from upstream systems to reduce manual rekeying.
Governance and operations established centralized intake and ticketing practices, with Customer Support Associates in Austin operating phone, email, and live chat channels and using ticket tracking systems to manage SaaS support requests. Change management emphasis included user training for legal teams, documented workflow governance, and ongoing support processes staffed by associates with ticketing and SQL knowledge to maintain operational continuity.
