In 2019, Lumen Technologies implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a broader Workday HCM and Financials program. The implementation targeted Absence and Leave Management alongside Core HCM, Payroll, Benefits, Time Tracking, Compensation and related HR modules to centralize leave workflows and absence business processes.
The Workday Absence Management deployment included configuration of absence business processes, alerts and notifications, and the creation of calculated fields and custom reports to support leave policy enforcement and case management. Functional work covered absence configuration integrated with Time Tracking and Benefits, and technical work included data conversion, XML data modeling for succession and corporate data models, and development of inbound and outbound integrations for entitlements and leave balances.
Integrations were implemented using Core Connector, Workday Studio and EIB, and the program leveraged boundary integration tooling such as Jitterbit and MuleSoft for broader IT connectivity. Reporting and planning capabilities were supported through Workday report development, Adaptive Planning and Prism Reporting, and the team produced custom reports for HR and financial modules to ensure data continuity between absence, payroll and financial accounting processes.
Governance emphasized business process design, security and ongoing support, with responsibility for business process configuration, security management including cost center security application, data conversions, and post implementation HRIS support. The program also established SDLC practices for specification, testing and stakeholder communications, and provided operational support for payroll GL, procurement and expense integrations to maintain consistent absence payroll interfacing and compliance.

In 2022, Lumen Technologies implemented AppWorx Workload Automation to orchestrate Diagnostics as a Service workflows within the Business Process Management category. The implementation focused on automating detection and remediation for High Speed Internet operations, centralizing workload scheduling and rule based execution to reduce non productive dispatches and improve operational responsiveness.
The deployment configured discrete functional modules aligned to four use cases, UC1 PHSI Proactive HIS Remote Fix, UC2 INP0 throughput stabilization, UC3 Low SNR remediation, and UC4 C4000 modem health monitoring. AppWorx Workload Automation was used to schedule scans, trigger scripted remediation flows, and invoke RPA actions developed by Lumen to resolve auth issues, modem and provisioning mismatches, virtual port assignments, bandwidth anomalies, low signal to noise conditions, and modem temperature alerts. Workflows encoded threshold checks, retry logic, and escalation points so automated fixes could be attempted before human dispatch.
Integrations centered on telemetry ingestion and RPA invocation, with AppWorx Workload Automation orchestrating feeds of modem metrics and diagnostic outputs into decision workflows and dispatch suppression logic. The operational coverage targeted HSI customer TNs and modem fleets, aligning automation with network operations and customer experience teams. AI and machine learning models were referenced as part of the DaaS analytical layer to prioritize remediation actions and surface candidates for automated fixes.
Governance and rollout were managed under a lead consultant model starting August 2022 and continuing to present, with phased activation of use cases and controlled escalation paths for exceptions that required field intervention. Automation governance included threshold definitions, monitoring of failed automations, and handoff rules for manual dispatch when remediation did not resolve issues. The stated objectives for the AppWorx Workload Automation deployment were to eliminate non productive dispatches, provide a better customer experience, and reduce mean time to repair through data driven, AI and ML informed automation.
