Alberta Investment Management Corporation | Banking and Financial Services | 450 | $753M | Canada | Nutanix | Nutanix Cloud Platform | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2017 | n/a |
In 2017, Alberta Investment Management Corporation deployed Nutanix Cloud Platform. The Nutanix Cloud Platform was implemented as an Application Hosting and Computing Services capability to consolidate compute and storage for core accounting, analytics, trading, and risk processes across the firm.
The deployment centralized infrastructure into a hyperconverged design built on Nutanix Enterprise Cloud, supporting enterprise applications and database engines including SimCorp Dimension, Eagle Investment Systems, Microsoft SQL Server instances and Oracle database. Nutanix Cloud Platform was configured to accelerate batch computation and analytics workloads, and to provide the processing headroom required for nightly net asset value and reporting pipelines.
Operational coverage included Quant research, nightly NAV and reporting data mart distribution, risk data mart processing, and file movement into SimCorp accounting and reporting systems, supporting traders and portfolio managers with timely data each trading day. Integrations explicitly documented in the implementation include SimCorp Dimension, Eagle Investment Systems, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database, enabling the platform to host both transactional and analytic workloads.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical rollout, with AIMCo establishing a prevalidation team to perform evening data validation checks before running NAV processes, and adopting a service oriented architecture posture to position for multi cloud and hybrid cloud operations. AIMCo also worked with partner Reliant Technologies to expand the Nutanix environment into a new data center and bring additional production workloads onto the platform.
AIMCo reported explicit operational outcomes from the deployment, including accelerated processing time by 40 percent for core accounting systems and performance gains of 30 to 60 percent in quant computations, expanded overnight remediation time for NAV processing from 11 minutes to 159 minutes, and lower hardware costs after consolidating core financial services applications onto the unified platform. The implementation improved analytics and reporting throughput, enabled prevalidation workflows that improve data accuracy before client reporting, and was associated with higher staff productivity and morale as described by AIMCo leadership.

Ambrose University | Education | 200 | $30M | Canada | Nutanix | Nutanix Cloud Platform | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Ambrose University implemented Nutanix Cloud Platform as its hyperconverged infrastructure, deployed under the Application Hosting and Computing Services category. The deployment consolidated administrative compute for a faith-based higher education institution with roughly 920 students and an IT staff of three supporting 1,300 users.
The solution architecture used Nutanix Enterprise Cloud technologies, including the Nutanix AHV hypervisor and Nutanix Prism Pro management solution, running as a cluster on the Nutanix NX-6000 Series Virtual Computing Platform. Nutanix Move was used to perform cross-hypervisor VM migrations with minimal downtime, and Veeam Backup and Replication was deployed to provide backup protection for critical data.
Operational scope covered the universitys administrative operations, Learning Management System applications, web servers, Microsoft Office 365 productivity applications, open source PBX, and Microsoft SQL databases. The small IT team leveraged Prism Pro to provision and manage VMs rapidly, scaling remote desktop gateways and application servers within days to support a rapid increase in remote workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Security and governance were implemented using built-in VM level segmentation and layered policies to control inter-VM communication and protect student and institutional data. Simplified management reduced console switching for a three-person IT staff, enabled dependable operation for three years with no loss of service to customers, and provided flexibility to switch employees to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bay Area Rapid Transit | Transportation | 4000 | $620M | United States | Nutanix | Nutanix Cloud Platform | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2017 | n/a |
In 2017 Bay Area Rapid Transit implemented Nutanix Cloud Platform as its private cloud solution within the Application Hosting and Computing Services category to create an easy to manage, scalable infrastructure and to add a dedicated disaster recovery location. The Nutanix Cloud Platform deployment targeted enterprise applications including desktop virtualization, mission critical maintenance systems and a separate initiative to refresh the BART Police application infrastructure.
The implementation used Nutanix hyperconverged nodes including NX-3450, NX-3150 and an NX-7100 node, and was managed via Nutanix Prism. Functional capabilities implemented included virtual desktop infrastructure using VMware Horizon View, Oracle database virtualization, and a unified management plane for enterprise workloads such as Maximo work order and maintenance systems. The environment ran on the VMware ESXi vSphere hypervisor at the time, with evaluation of Nutanix AHV noted as a future option.
Operational architecture covered two datacenters, a primary site for production and development and a secondary site for disaster recovery, enabling rapid failover between locations. The project migrated substantial capacity to the Nutanix environment, with 50 to 60 TB moved to the platform within a few weeks, and consolidated rack footprint reducing physical infrastructure from six racks down to two racks. The deployment also supported a police application standalone footprint requirement by delivering high performance in a significantly smaller space.
Governance and rollout emphasized simplified procurement and single-vendor operations to reduce administrative overhead, shifting day to day system visibility and troubleshooting into the Prism interface instead of multiple consoles. Explicit results stated by BART included cutting management headcount in half for operations, reducing deployment time from eight months to a matter of days, obtaining a 30 percent reduction in CapEx, achieving a 3x reduction in footprint and power, and a 25 to 30 percent reduction in application or project deployment time. The Nutanix Cloud Platform also played a role in rapid recovery during a prior EMC VNX incident through vendor response and operational continuity for critical services.
