In 2006, Banco Galicia implemented SAP Core Banking to accelerate time to market for new financial products and services and to support differentiated retail and corporate offerings. The bank engaged IBM as systems integrator and provisioned SAP for Banking solutions on its IBM System z mainframe platform to support multi currency account management and expanded product configuration capabilities and delivery.
The implementation included SAP Core Banking functional components such as SAP Banking Services for deposits and loans, SAP Process Integration and SAP NetWeaver Process Integration, SAP ERP 6.0 and SAP Solution Manager, SAP Portal, SAP SCM, SAP LiveCache, SAP Risk Management and migration plans to SAP GRC, and SAP CMO for customer management. Banco Galicia later upgraded core infrastructure to an IBM zEnterprise EC12 server and leveraged platform features such as zHPF DB2 collaborative cache, IBM System Storage Easy Tier optimizations and IBM Workload Manager QoS to support scalability, resiliency and performance for Core Banking operations.
Operational scope covered retail and corporate banking product development, core deposit and loan processing, risk and compliance workflows and central IT operations, with governance services implemented by IBM Global Business Services to manage SAP Governance Risk and Compliance and solution maintenance. Reported outcomes documented in the case study include faster product design and launch cycles, strengthened competitive positioning and improved operational availability for 24/7 banking services, aligned to the Core Banking implementation.
