Sapura Drilling | Professional Services | 700 | $172M | Malaysia | Star Information Systems | Star FSM | Procurement | 2015 | n/a |
In 2015, Sapura Drilling implemented Star FSM to centralize procurement and material receipt workflows across its supply base operations. The deployment targeted Sapura Drilling ASB Labuan base and KSB Kemaman base, supporting logistics and supplies to offshore rigs serving clients such as PCSB, Exxon and Shell.
Star FSM was configured to manage procurement-oriented functions including material receipt processing, spare parts management, equipment inventory control, tubular record submission, and rental and repair tracking registers. The implementation emphasized Procurement lifecycle controls, warehouse inventory validation, and document-driven receipt workflows to ensure inventory availability and alignment with scheduled rig operations.
Operational integration explicitly included coordination between Star FSM and the companys STAR IPS for equipment transfer issues and returns between the supply bases and rigs. The solution was used to coordinate logistics activities such as preparation of customs documentation with clearance agents and clients, MHE planning for stuffing and cargo movements at the storage yard and ASB jetty, and tracking of inbound and outbound rig load consignments.
Governance and process controls were formalized through maintenance of a Base Manual, monthly submission of spare part and tubular reports to management, MSDS labeling and hazardous chemical storage per DOE safety specifications, and management of scheduled waste including e-SWIS updates. Disposal of expired equipment and scrap was handled through a vendor bidding process, and Star FSM served as the transactional system to coordinate material receipts and inventory communications with drilling rig teams.
