In 2016, Magyar Kozut engaged USU Optimization for SAP to prepare for an imminent SAP license audit, using a project scoped under Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM). The engagement was initiated one year after Magyar Kozut went live with SAP, and it responded to a gap in software asset processes that had been managed with spreadsheets and an internal belief that the estate was over-licensed.
The delivery model was USU’s License Compliance Service rather than an initial software deployment, and USU Optimization for SAP was used to produce a rapid, contract-level analysis. The service analyzed current contracts and license balances, produced a comparison of existing SAP Named and Professional User license types against a simulation of recommended license types, and included review sessions between USU SAP specialists and Magyar Kozut leadership.
Operationally the work focused on IT licensing inventory, contract review, and audit preparedness, with direct implications for procurement, IT sourcing, and finance as teams used the outputs to strengthen negotiating position with SAP. The approach deliberately avoided installing a full SAM product at the outset, enabling quick, tailored results that leveraged high data quality from the recent SAP implementation.
The project was supported locally by partner LicenseCore in Hungary, whose consultants contributed SAM and vendor audit defense expertise. The engagement gave Magyar Kozut access to SAP licensing specialists and negotiation leverage, and the negotiated outcome included a reported 7% reduction in SAP license costs, turning the audit threat into a financial advantage.

In 2016, METRO AG implemented USU Optimization for SAP to establish a central IT asset management capability across the group. The project addressed hardware and software inventory, user and license data, and targeted consolidated visibility through a single USU Software Asset Management platform in a Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM) context.
Implementation began with USU Software Asset Management discovery, which obtained high quality inventory data via reports after connecting to various source systems. In parallel, License Management was configured and optimization modules were activated for the most important vendors, with explicit coverage for SAP, Oracle, IBM and Office 365 using the USU Optimization for SAP application.
Operational coverage was group wide, consolidating HW and SW data and aggregating user and license information to support compliance and finance reporting. The deployment produced over 60 dashboard reports that provide consolidated inventory and up to date balance sheet data, enabling ongoing license optimization for SAP, Oracle, IBM and Office 365 while minimizing manual effort.
Governance and process changes centralized ITAM workflows into the USU solution, shifting data management to a single source of truth and automating regular reporting and compliance checks.
