Asklepios Kliniken | Healthcare | 49425 | $5.8B | Germany | VMware by Broadcom | VMware Horizon | Digital Workspace | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022, Asklepios Kliniken implemented VMware Horizon as a core component of its Digital Workspace strategy, deploying VMware Horizon to provide secure virtual desktops and application delivery across its hospital group. VMware Horizon and VMware Workspace ONE are described in the implementation as central to the IT landscape, supporting thousands of virtual workspaces and enabling clinical and administrative staff to access patient information from anywhere on a high-availability platform.
The implementation combined virtual desktop infrastructure, endpoint management and security automation, with VMware Horizon providing persistent and nonpersistent desktop delivery and VMware Workspace ONE handling unified endpoint management and access control. Security was layered with VMware Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Advanced and Carbon Black App Control, including Carbon Black Cloud Audit and Remediation to enable real-time auditing and automated corrective actions, while standardization and automation were emphasized to maximize availability across clinical workflows.
Architecturally the deployment was integrated with an existing VMware stack, including VMware vSphere and VMware NSX, and is positioned to expand toward VMware Cloud Foundation and VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud for segmented protection of medical devices. Operational coverage spans the Asklepios hospital network, enabling mobile nursing devices to access patient records across facilities, and consolidates previously siloed systems to streamline data sharing for clinical processes such as diagnostics and patient portals.
Governance was driven by the CISO office after a risk assessment identified security improvement areas, the security components were rolled out quickly with Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Advanced and Carbon Black App Control operational in under two months, and automated workflows were introduced to reduce manual security tasks. The stated outcomes include a secure digital workplace for staff, improved data sharing and patient centric processes, strengthened protection of sensitive patient data against cyberattacks, and a foundation for future services such as AI, automation and expanded VMware-based infrastructure.
