Cardinal Health | Healthcare | 53084 | $222.6B | United States | MercuryGate International | MercuryGate TMS System | Transportation Management | 2019 | n/a | In 2019, Cardinal Health implemented MercuryGate TMS System to centralize Transportation Management for its inbound and outbound freight operations. The deployment focused on multi modal shipment planning and execution using MercuryGate International technology, with the goal of improving shipment consolidation, carrier selection, and end to end visibility across carriers. The implementation configured core Transportation Management capabilities including automated rate shopping, an optimization algorithm to consolidate orders into optimal shipments, route selection based on cost transit time and customer requirements, exception handling for plan deviations, and automated carrier safety and insurance verification that references the federal DOT website. Execution workflows were enabled to electronically offer loads to carriers and capture carrier acceptance, while real time shipment visibility and carrier scorecards tracked performance and acceptance rates. Integrations and operational coverage were implemented to accept orders via EDI spreadsheet phone and fax ingestion, load carrier contracts for automated audit and pay, and output detailed reports with GL code mappings for finance. The TMS was integrated operationally with warehouse management workflows when paired with a WMS, enabling cross functional decision making between transportation logistics procurement finance and warehouse operations, for example evaluating extra warehouse labor cost versus truck layover. Governance emphasized process enforcement analytics and exception reconciliation, with freight audit workflows to reconcile invoice discrepancies and structured reporting for monthly quarterly and on demand needs. Cardinal Health leveraged MercuryGate TMS System data as business intelligence to reduce freight spend and save time through optimization, while improved visibility supported compliance requirements such as Sarbanes Oxley and FDA related supply chain integrity. | |
