In 2018 BJ's Wholesale Club implemented Blue Yonder Luminate Planning as part of a Supply Chain Management program across its retail wholesale clubs in the Eastern United States. The initial engagement upgraded JDA Enterprise Planning capabilities and established a phased, multi-year program to extend planning into intelligent fulfillment.
Blue Yonder Luminate Planning was configured to centralize demand forecasting, replenishment planning and strategic inventory assessment. The implementation included JDA Demand, JDA Demand Classification, JDA Enterprise Planning and JDA Advanced Store Replenishment modules, with planned expansion to JDA Fulfillment and JDA Order Optimization to address order orchestration and fulfillment sequencing. Transportation Management was maintained as a complementary module to align transportation planning with store replenishment and distribution center execution.
The architecture united planning and execution layers to support iterative problem solving across inventory planning, replenishment and order fulfillment, with phased rollouts across BJ's club network. Tata Consultancy Services assisted with technical aspects of the deployment while Blue Yonder provided consulting, strategic services, education and implementation services to drive configuration and operational readiness. Implementation activities included Strategic Services assessments and recommendations that informed configuration choices and process changes.
Governance followed a phased program model, using Strategic Services assessments to prioritize modules and an education track to ready store and supply chain teams for new workflows. The upgrade delivered a smooth and quick upgrade according to vendor reports and established a foundation for subsequent Intelligent Fulfillment phases. Subsequent phases were planned to unite supply chain planning and execution more tightly and iteratively address inventory planning, replenishment and order fulfillment challenges.

Tata Consultancy Services automated promotions and pricing processes, and the implementation carried regular sales plans, loyalty program offers, and customer campaigns through coordinated promotion cycles into multiple channels.
Integration work focused on operationalizing the SAP Customer Activity Repository for S/4HANA Retail within Boots retail operations and connecting promotion management to channel execution points, supporting omnichannel price and offer distribution. The rollout emphasized channel-level distribution and campaign synchronization rather than point solutions, with configuration centered on promotion lifecycle management, price rule execution, and campaign segmentation capabilities consistent with CRM oriented merchandising and customer engagement workflows.
Tata Consultancy Services ran an early proof of concept to let end users visualize the target solution, then translated user stories into the design and delivery lifecycle to guide configuration and acceptance. Governance centered on iterative delivery and user-driven design, with TCS positioned as strategic systems integrator to operationalize the automated promotion and pricing processes and to embed promotion management into Boots business workflows.
