In 2014, Hyland's implemented Microsoft Dynamics NAV as its ERP Financial platform, engaging Western Computer as the SI/VAR and using Microsoft as the vendor. The initiative established Microsoft Dynamics NAV as the central system for financials and transactional control across the company’s manufacturing operations.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV was configured to address inventory and manufacturing requirements, including lot control for lot controlled items, purchase order receiving, lot number assignment, physical count verification, and management of components and bulk raw material. The implementation included manufacturing and MRP integration points, SRS report and document delivery configuration, and Jet Enterprise and Jet Essentials for reporting and data extraction.
Integration architecture connected Microsoft Dynamics NAV to a full-service EDI solution and supported Lanham E ship and EDI flat file interchange for trading partner communications, alongside credit card processing and integration with the Rocky Soft planning and MRP suite. The technical stack was managed on SQL Server environments through SQL 2014, with SRS and Jet tooling used for repeatable document and reporting processes.
Governance and operational ownership rested with the Sr Director of IT who managed platform upgrades, customizations, scheduled testing for system integration, performance and security, and project execution to control budget, schedule and scope. Project plans documented objectives, technologies, information specifications, schedules, funding and staffing to support ongoing maintenance and version upgrades.
The deployment supported manufacturing, inventory control and shipping workflows at Gardena and Los Angeles operational sites, enabling Inventory Control Clerk tasks such as receiving company POs, assigning lot numbers, and releasing outgoing shipments. Hyland's maintained internal expertise and certification across NAV modules, managing upgrades from NAV 4.0 through NAV 2017 while operating Microsoft Dynamics NAV as the enterprise ERP Financial backbone.
