Department for Transport | Government | 18245 | $15.9B | United Kingdom | Edenred | Edenred Benefits | Benefits Administration | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022 the Department for Transport implemented Edenred Benefits as its Benefits Administration application to centralize employee wellbeing and cost-of-living support. The deployment targeted staff across seven offices in the UK where the Edenred Benefits platform and mobile app were made primary access points for childcare vouchers, gym membership, Cycle-to-Work, health screenings, dental insurance, payroll giving, retail discounts and buying and selling annual leave.
Implementation emphasis combined platform provisioning, mobile app activation and expanded desktop access with a communications-led configuration, including an interactive 12 Saves of Christmas promotion, short form TikTok-style videos, virtual benefits roadshows and a new benefits booklet for new starters. Functional workflows emphasized self-service benefit selection and order placement through the Edenred Benefits app and desktop interface, with a specific Cycle-to-Work anytime selection option added following staff feedback from the department’s Cycling Network.
Working closely with vendor Edenred the Reward and Benefits team integrated the program into existing employee channels, creating a dedicated Microsoft Teams benefits channel, expanded intranet pages with feedback capability and cross-site distribution via office digital screens. The rollout included targeted offline interventions for employees without online access and used internal networks to focus communications on specific propositions, for example Cycle-to-Work and enhanced retail discounts.
Governance and rollout were managed by the Reward and Benefits team with recurring governance touchpoints, a monthly slot at all-staff livestreams, regular HR briefings with weekly benefit tips, leader guidance for local conversations and accessibility accommodations including live captioning and visually adapted posters. Reported outcomes include a 102% increase in employees using the Edenred benefits platform between November 2021 and November 2022, unique app users rising from 73 to 266, a 76% increase in desktop access, first-time benefit orders growing from 41 to 230 and doubled uptake of health screening, gym membership and dental insurance, the initiative was highly commended in the Employee Benefits Awards 2023.
