Cirque du Soleil | Leisure and Hospitality | 4000 | $850M | Canada | IBM | IBM eServer xSeries | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2003 | n/a |
In 2003, Cirque du Soleil deployed IBM eServer xSeries as the hardware platform running IBM WebSphere Business Integration Server Express to establish a scalable On Demand integration environment. The deployment targeted application integration and IT operations to centralize runtime services for Cirque du Soleil’s Montreal-based global business and to support growth.
The implementation used IBM WebSphere Business Integration Server Express on IBM eServer xSeries to integrate more than 200 disparate applications, enabling real-time business information sharing across ticketing, production scheduling and back-office systems. Architecturally this placed IBM eServer xSeries within Cirque du Soleil’s Application Hosting and Computing Services footprint to host integration middleware, messaging and runtime orchestration, creating a centralized integration layer that streamlined operational processes and supported enterprise-wide information flows.

Emak Italy | Manufacturing | 2527 | $655M | Italy | IBM | IBM eServer xSeries | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2005 | Ibm |
In 2005, Emak Italy deployed IBM eServer xSeries 235 under an Application Hosting and Computing Services engagement to support engineering and PLM workflows across Italy and wider Europe, hosting core CAD and PLM systems to centralize product design and supplier collaboration. The deployment specifically hosted IBM CATIA V5 and SMARTEAM on the IBM eServer xSeries hardware to provide a unified platform for CAD model management and engineering change control.
The IBM eServer xSeries environment was configured to deliver centralized compute and storage for CAD processing and PLM services, enabling model storage, versioning, and concurrent engineering workflows typical of engineering and product lifecycle management deployments. Functional capabilities implemented included CAD model hosting with CATIA V5 and PLM data and process management with SMARTEAM, supporting design iteration, configuration control, and supplier collaboration processes.
IBM Business Consulting Services designed and implemented the solution, leading system configuration, deployment, and rollout across Emak sites in Italy and broader European operations, and aligning PLM workflows with engineering and supplier-facing processes. Outcomes documented in the IBM and Dassault customer case study include 30 percent faster CAD model times and 25 percent faster engineering change cycles, with the IBM eServer xSeries and hosted CATIA V5 and SMARTEAM forming the core technical foundation.

HANS KOLB Wellpappe | Manufacturing | 1200 | $300M | Germany | IBM | IBM eServer xSeries | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2001 | All for One Group |
In 2001, Hans Kolb Corrugated Cardboard GmbH & Co. KG implemented IBM eServer xSeries as its primary hosting platform under the Application Hosting and Computing Services category. All for One Group led the deployment and provisioning of the IBM eServer xSeries environment for the customer.
The implementation hosted SAP application modules on IBM eServer xSeries, with a phased functional rollout. Level 1 covered HR and was productive since 1999, Level 2 introduced FI, AA and CO overheads and went productive on February 1, 2006, and Level 3 delivered MM including purchasing, inventory management and paper disposition and went productive on May 1, 2006. The deployment supported approximately 208 concurrent users on IBM eServer xSeries running Linux with Oracle Database as the persistence layer.
Architecturally the IBM eServer xSeries environment functioned as the application hosting layer for SAP transaction processing and master data, it included integration to the existing order processing system to enable end to end order flows, and it embedded paper disposition logic in purchasing to control raw material procurement. The solution concentrated on application hosting and computing services for core business functions, supporting HR, finance, controlling and materials management processes.
Rollout governance followed a staged release model by module and business function, with All for One Group managing cutover and production stabilization. Operational scope included the Memmingen Germany site and extended to group level controlling use cases, with SAP interfacing to local order processing to maintain continuity of supply and production planning.
Explicit customer outcomes reported with this hosted environment include a reduction in inventories through the additional paper disposition solution and better controlling across the entire group of companies. IBM eServer xSeries served as the underlying Application Hosting and Computing Services platform enabling those functional improvements.
