ANZ Bank implemented Infosys Finacle in 2008. In 2020 ANZ moved a significant portion of its internet banking services onto an on-premise container platform powered by Red Hat OpenShift following a proof-of-concept that was recommended by Infosys, the supplier of Infosys Finacle.
Infosys Finacle is used as ANZ Bank's Core Banking engine and was provisioned to support core transaction processing, payments pathways and customer account services consistent with Core Banking deployments. The implementation emphasized packaging Finacle components to run alongside containerized internet banking services, enabling separation of front end internet banking workloads from the bank's core processing layer.
The proof-of-concept completed at the beginning of 2020 and in just over four months ANZ had 30% of its internet banking services running on OpenShift. Within about an hour of switching on the new services the platform processed A$2.9bn of payments and within about 30 minutes 45,000 customers were actively transacting, demonstrating scale for the container platform. Infosys advised the approach and the deployment focused on internet banking workloads running on the bank's on-premise container platform.
Operational governance shifted to support an on-premise container platform model, with teams adopting automation, expanded test automation and DevSecOps practices to embed security into the delivery pipeline. The rollout sequence used the POC to validate scale and reliability, then accelerated service migrations to OpenShift while maintaining the Finacle Core Banking execution footprint.
