In 2015, Ace Hardware expanded its JDA footprint by deploying JDA Category Management to support Category Management for assortment, space and merchandising functions across its cooperative of more than 4,800 locally owned stores. The implementation extended Ace Hardware beyond supply chain planning into in store merchandising, signaling a strategic shift to formalize category workflows and planning data at scale. The implementation package included JDA Floor Planning, JDA Category Knowledge Base, JDA Web Publisher and JDA Assortment Optimization, each deployed to enable floor plan creation, centralized category data management, plan distribution and assortment science. Ace integrated the new merchandising modules with its existing JDA footprint, which already included JDA Space Planning, JDA Advanced Warehouse Replenishment and a broad deployment of JDA Demand and Fulfillment. The implementation covered merchandising and category management teams and extended to store-level plan distribution and retail development functions, with JDA Web Publisher used to communicate plans and revisions to franchise stores. The expanded architecture therefore linked assortment and space decisions to downstream replenishment and demand planning capabilities within the JDA suite.
Governance changes focused on moving from spreadsheet based assortment and layout planning to synchronized category data and published plan workflows, enabling centralized plan authoring and controlled distribution to store managers and planners. The press release cites prior results from Ace s earlier JDA Demand and Fulfillment work where the initial implementation produced a 27 million dollar reduction in inventory and 475,000 dollars in annual savings from decreased space requirements, and frames the Category Management deployment as a complementary effort to improve planner productivity and precision in selecting locally relevant products.
