Colorado State University | Education | 9517 | $1.4B | United States | Kuali | Kuali Financials | Education ERP | 2007 | n/a |
In 2007, Colorado State University joined Kuali as a development partner and selected Kuali Financials for core financial management. Kuali Financials is an application in the Education ERP category and CSU pursued the implementation to better integrate campus financial operations with research administration across the United States.
The deployment configured Kuali Financials modules typical for Education ERP use, including general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing, budget controls, and project accounting for sponsored research. Kuali Financials was tailored to support CSU fund structures and chart of accounts and to enable workflow automation for transactional processing.
Integration focus targeted financial workflows and research administration, using Kuali Financials to instrument award accounting, project-level cost tracking, and cost transfer workflows across departments and research units. Operational coverage extended across administrative finance teams and research administration offices, aligning transaction processing and reporting between business functions.
CSU went live with KFS in 2009 following the development partnership and staged rollout across finance and research administration functions. Governance was managed at the university level to standardize configuration choices and approval workflows. The implementation emphasized workflow improvements and reduction of manual and paper-based processes as described in CSU case materials.

Cornell University | Education | 11062 | $5.8B | United States | Kuali | Kuali Financials | Education ERP | 2021 | n/a |
In 2021, Cornell University implemented Kuali Financials as part of a cloud-first Education ERP modernization led by Cornell Information Technologies, supporting a connected digital campus for 23,000 students and nearly 10,000 employees across 15 colleges and schools in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. The implementation aligned with institutional goals to improve administrative efficiency, reduce IT costs and deliver on-demand access to administrative and financial services for students, faculty and staff.
Kuali Financials was provisioned within Cornell’s hybrid IT architecture as the central Education ERP for core financial management workflows, including general ledger, accounts payable, procurement, grants accounting, budgeting and institutional reporting. The deployment emphasized standard Education ERP capabilities for institutional finance and grant administration, and was configured to operate alongside remaining on-premise systems while supporting cloud-first operational objectives.
Integration of Kuali Financials was executed through a Boomi-powered integration fabric that connected the financial system to a set of enterprise applications explicitly used at Cornell, including Salesforce, Oracle PeopleSoft, Workday, SAP Concur, Blackboard, Longview and iModules. Boomi API Management and connectors were used to unlock finance and related administrative data from non-cloud sources, enabling near real-time interfaces and orchestration across finance, HR and student systems.
Governance and rollout were led by CIT, which centralized integration development and monitoring into a compact team that accelerated the integration cadence. Cornell’s experience with Boomi produced explicit results for integration development speed and runtime performance, and bringing Kuali Financials into that integration fabric improved the maintainability, monitoring and operational visibility of finance integration processes.
