Apps Purchases: 10+ Million Software Purchases
Founded in 2010, APPS RUN THE WORLD is a leading technology intelligence and market-research company devoted to the application space. Leveraging a rigorous data-centric research methodology, we ask the simple B2B sales intelligence question: Who’s buying enterprise applications from whom and why?
Our global team of 50 researchers has been studying the digital transformation initiatives being undertaken by 2 million + companies including technographic segmentation of 10 million ERP, EPM, CRM, HCM, Procurement, SCM, Treasury software purchases, aggregating massive amounts of data points that form the basis of our forecast assumptions and perhaps the rise and fall of certain vendors and their products on a quarterly basis.
Apps Run The World Buyer Insight and Technographics Customer Database has over 100 data fields that detail company usage of emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Blockchain, Autonomous Database, and different on-prem and cloud apps by function, customer size (employees, revenues), industry, country, implementation status, year deal won, partner involvement, Line of Business Key Stakeholders and key decision-makers contact details, including the systems being used by Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies.

Farys | Utilities | 800 | $200M | Belgium | SAP | SAP Datasphere | Data Warehouse | 2022 | Capgemini | In 2022, Farys implemented SAP Datasphere to establish a business data fabric as part of its Data Warehouse architecture and broader cloud modernization strategy. The SAP Datasphere deployment sits alongside SAP S/4HANA deployed in a cloud environment and SAP Business Technology Platform, forming the data foundation for Farys’s smart water platform and mass rollout of smart water meters. The implementation configured SAP Datasphere to provide a unified, authoritative data layer with meter independent connectivity and support for self-service analytics, using SAP Analytics Cloud for exposure of authoritative datasets. SAP HANA Cloud provides in-database AI and machine learning capabilities, and SAP Build was used to create and extend cloud applications such as a GDPR compliant customer self-service portal. The architecture emphasizes a business data fabric approach, enabling governed data models, semantic layers, and role-based access to analytical data. Integrations were implemented explicitly with SAP S/4HANA, SAP Cloud for Energy, SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh, and SAP HANA Cloud, orchestrated on SAP Business Technology Platform, with Capgemini as the integration and implementation partner. The advanced event mesh supports event-driven ingestion and distribution of over two million smart meter readings per day, routing events to billing in SAP S/4HANA Utilities, alarm handling apps, and analytics pipelines in SAP Datasphere. Operational coverage spans drinking water management, sewage management, procurement, field service workflows, billing, and customer engagement across Farys’s municipal and regional services. Governance and process changes centered on near real-time data flows, allowing alarms and meter events to trigger automated downstream workflows and operational actions, rather than relying on periodic batch runs. Standardized SAP Fiori interfaces and mobile-enabled apps were rolled out to field teams and partners to enforce consistent processes and provide contextual access to back-end and geographic information system data. Capgemini led the SAP S/4HANA configuration on AWS and co-developed the smart water platform with SAP, supporting a sector-wide rollout in collaboration with two other Belgian water companies. Outcomes reported from the implementation include elimination of overnight reporting runs through real-time reporting, faster sales calculations, improved warehouse visibility, preventive asset maintenance, streamlined employee and partner processes via mobile Fiori apps, and a customer portal that reduced contact center workload. The smart water platform delivers more accurate billing and near real-time consumption insights for customers, while early warnings from meter data support leak detection and reduced water waste. Farys continues to plan extensions such as integrating SAP Asset Performance Management and additional AI use cases to expand consumption forecasting and predictive maintenance. | |
