Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance | Insurance | 1427 | $657M | United States | Duck Creek Technologies | Duck Creek Policy | Insurance Policy Administration | 2016 |
In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance implemented Duck Creek Policy as its Insurance Policy Administration platform, beginning a program that ran from January 2016 through June 2017 with implementation support from Xceedance. The initiative targeted Commercial Lines Casualty business and positioned Duck Creek Policy to act as the primary system for writing business across multiple coverage lines and international markets where the company operates including Australia and New Zealand.
The deployment centered on policy administration for Commercial Lines Casualty, explicitly supporting General Liability, Umbrella Liability, Excess Liability, and Construction Liability coverages. Duck Creek Policy was used to write business for industry verticals including Manufacturing and Distribution, Education, Power and Utilities, Mining and Energy, Oil and Gas, Construction, Professional Services, and Healthcare and Life Sciences, providing core issuance and policy record capabilities aligned with Insurance Policy Administration requirements.
The implementation included a data and reporting pipeline where transactional XML from Duck Creek Policy was shredded into a relational database, then moved into a data warehouse using SQL Server Integration Services. Reporting was automated using SQL Server Reporting Services to generate and print standard documents, and analytical reporting was provisioned via SQL Server Analysis Services cubes to support decision making. These integrations established a structured flow from policy transactions to enterprise reporting and cube based analysis.
Operational coverage focused on Commercial Lines Casualty underwriting and portfolio management workflows, with the system and data pipeline enabling centralized reporting and cube based analytics for business users. Governance and rollout were coordinated with Xceedance and emphasized end to end data processing from Duck Creek Policy through ETL and reporting stacks, ensuring policy administration, data warehousing, and reporting processes were aligned for underwriting and analytics consumption.

Hollard Insurance Australia | Insurance | 1600 | $1.5B | Australia | Duck Creek Technologies | Duck Creek Billing | Time Tracking and Billing | 2024 |
In 2024 Hollard Insurance Australia implemented Duck Creek Billing as part of a rapid core platform deployment that included Duck Creek Policy Admin and supporting modules. Duck Creek Billing is a Time Tracking and Billing application used to centralize billing workflows, automate commissions, and support multiple payment plans across product lines.
The deployment included Duck Creek Policy Admin, Duck Creek Billing, Duck Creek Party, Data Hub, Message Hub, and .NET components, with Azure Logic Apps orchestrating integration flows. Configuration work delivered customized screens, product-specific underwriting rules, task queues per product, custom transactions, custom status flows, and referral processes to align underwriting and servicing operations. Multiple batch processes were implemented to support Australian operations and country layers.
Integrations were executed with Hollard’s existing vendor systems, a newly established payment gateway, a data warehouse for reporting and auditing, and the insurer’s external rating system used for commercial and personal lines. A headless implementation enabled straight-through processing with the broker portal, covering quoting, binding, endorsing, referring, billing, renewing, and mid-term broker changes with minimal human intervention. End-to-end integration testing and certification were completed with broker applications prior to go-live.
Xceedance led the engagement with a global delivery team spanning Australia, the United States, and India, contributing over 600 hours of Duck Creek implementation experience and taking ownership of business, data, and testing coordination. Functional, regression, and performance testing were conducted with Hollard’s Testing Center for Excellence, and Xceedance provided ongoing post-production support and maintenance. The implementation leveraged Duck Creek low-code configuration to accelerate delivery across the coordinated rollout.
The program was completed in six months, delivered three product lines covering home, landlord, and motor insurance while creating country layers, and was executed within the defined budgets and schedule with continued production support thereafter. This deployment represented the first instance in Australia where an insurer simultaneously implemented three product lines, a new policy system, an integrated communications platform, and completed policy data migration within a single six month program.
