Asian Paints Manufacturing 8056 $4.1B India SAP SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ Database Management 2015 n/a
In 2015 Asian Paints implemented SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ, deploying SAP IQ database software as its Database Management platform to support business intelligence and reporting. The deployment was positioned alongside existing SAP solutions, including SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence solutions, SAP Business Suite applications, SAP Business Warehouse application and the SAP HANA platform, as well as the SAP Mobile Platform, creating a coherent SAP-centric data stack. Configuration emphasized analytics-oriented database capabilities native to SAP IQ and integration points that feed semantic and reporting layers, specifically SAP BusinessObjects and SAP BW, to enable near real-time analytics across growing data volumes. SAP IQ database software was used to provision high-density analytical stores and to serve BI workloads, aligning database management functions with enterprise reporting, dashboarding and mobile analytics use cases. Operationally the implementation integrated SAP IQ into Asian Paints data architecture to centralize analytical query processing and to support SAP-driven BI workflows. Governance focused on embedding the SAP IQ instance within the SAP ecosystem, coordinating data feeds into SAP Business Warehouse and BusinessObjects layers and enabling end users to access analytics via existing SAP reporting channels, with the stated objective of enabling real-time analytics across growing data volumes.
Banka Citadele Banking and Financial Services 1329 $168M Latvia SAP SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ Database Management 2020 n/a
In 2020 Banka Citadele implemented SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ as a Database Management platform to underpin its Golden Source data warehouse. SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ was deployed to provide high capacity columnar storage and analytic query capabilities for large volumes of finance, risk and compliance data used in regulatory, statutory and management reporting. The implementation focused on core data warehouse functions, including consolidated storage for customer and product data, reporting support for Basel 239 integrated risk and financial data sources, and analytical workloads that feed AML and sanction filtering, advanced card and online fraud prevention, and customer loyalty management scenarios. The Database Management deployment supports operational workflows for finance, risk, compliance and reporting functions, with configuration aligned to high volume ingestion and analytic query patterns common to enterprise data warehouses. SAP IQ operates alongside Oracle and Databricks in Citadele Group’s data stack, enabling data storage and report generation across multiple systems. The Golden Source data warehouse on the Sybase IQ platform is the central repository referenced for regulatory and risk reporting across the Baltics region, and the deployment architecture is instrumented to serve reporting and analytic consumers across retail, SME and corporate banking lines. Governance and operational ownership were structured under an IT Area Manager for Sybase IQ, while data validation and quality processes were historically fragmented across departments. Before adopting SelectZero’s data observability platform the bank relied on manual validation solutions managed by various teams, creating an explicit requirement for a more reliable and automated observability layer to consolidate data validation and lineage workflows.
BRF Global Consumer Packaged Goods 100000 $10.7B Brazil SAP SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ Database Management 2020 n/a
In 2020, BRF Global implemented SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ and SAP Business Warehouse on SAP HANA to establish a scalable analytics and data processing foundation. The effort is situated within Database Management and targets BRF Global's enterprise analytics environment to improve processing and analysis of large volumes of food industry operational data. The deployment configured SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ as a disk optimized columnar database layer to serve high-performance analytic queries and long term persistence, while SAP Business Warehouse on SAP HANA provided in-memory reporting and data modeling capabilities. Configuration work included defining an aging-data strategy to tier data between the HANA hot layer and the SAP IQ cold store, and standard data warehousing constructs such as fact and dimension consolidation and query optimization were applied. Integration work linked SAP Business Warehouse on SAP HANA with SAP IQ to orchestrate data movement and query federation between in-memory and disk-based stores, enabling the analytics and reporting functions to access consolidated datasets without data loss. SAP MaxAttention and other SAP services assisted in defining the deployment plan, operational runbooks, and the aging rules that governed data tiering across the two platforms. Governance and rollout focused on formalizing the aging-data policy and implementing controlled data movement, with runbook procedures for rehydration and query routing. As an explicit outcome BRF removed 1.9 terabytes of data from a hot layer of memory without deleting information, using the SAP IQ and SAP Business Warehouse on SAP HANA configuration to preserve data while reducing in-memory footprint.
Croda International Oil, Gas and Chemicals 6100 $2.6B United Kingdom SAP SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ Database Management 2019 DXC Technology - Insurance
In 2019, Croda International implemented SAP IQ, ex Sybase IQ as the Database Management component of an SAP Information Lifecycle Management strategy to reduce HANA database footprints and retain archived SAP data. The initiative supported business functions including operations, sales and global executive reporting across Croda’s manufacturing and supply chain footprint. SAP IQ was configured to receive archived content from SAP Information Lifecycle Management and to host compressed, low cost storage for data offloaded from SAP Business Suite on HANA 2.0. The broader SAP landscape supported in the program included SAP ERP Central Component ECC, Business Information Warehouse, Environment Health and Safety, Governance Risk Management and Compliance, and Solution Manager. During the re-platforming Croda applied Windows OS upgrades and targeted database changes to align the landscape for HANA 2.0 compatibility. DXC Technology acted as the system integrator, deploying DXC Platform as a Service for SAP on Microsoft Azure and designing the landing zone in Croda’s existing Azure tenant to enable API integration through Palo Alto Networks firewalls and to leverage existing Azure ExpressRoute connectivity. The deployment used Availability Zones for high availability, and a Disaster Recovery setup with database replication in Europe West, while DXC managed Azure subscriptions as an Azure Cloud Service Provider. DXC migrated 106 workloads across sandbox, development, quality assurance, pre-production and production environments, and engaged partner smartShift to automate remediation of SAP custom code and support upgrades from Oracle to HANA 2.0. Governance and rollout relied on automated code remediation and a phased, low-risk approach that compressed infrastructure migration into a 12 week window and completed remediation and testing cycles in five months from sandbox to production. Explicit outcomes reported included a 40 percent reduction in application response times and a greater than 70 percent reduction in SAP ECC database size through archiving and HANA compression. DXC continues to support Croda’s SAP landscape and Azure operations to maintain availability and enable further SAP modernization.
