Alkaloid | Life Sciences | 1860 | $113M | Macedonia | SAP | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | 2019 |
In 2019, Alkaloid implemented SAP S/4 HANA as the central ERP information system, branded AlkaSAP, categorized as ERP Financial. AlkaSAP serves as an integrated platform for processing, monitoring and data management to support efficient functioning of core business processes across the organization.
The deployment includes core modules FI Finance, CO Controlling, MM/WM Material Management / Warehouse Management, SD Sales & Distribution, PP Planning Production, QM Quality Management and HR Human Resources, with configurations aligned to finance, procurement, inventory, order-to-cash, production planning, quality workflows and personnel management. SAP S/4 HANA is accessed daily by more than 400 users who work with transactions and reports under appropriate authorizations mapped to business processes.
AlkaSAP was rolled out from Alkaloid AD Skopje to five subsidiaries in four countries via dedicated rollout projects and project teams, with each company implemented as an independent system instance, including separate database and localized process adjustments to meet local regulations. A subsequent project in 2020 executed a big bang migration to the S/4 HANA platform across all modules and companies in under five months, replacing central infrastructure components such as hardware, operating system and database, and conducted remotely with vendor SAP support and two partners including SI/VAR B4b.
Operational support is structured across a central support organization that covers system equipment administration and module-level application support, and a three-tier end-user support model where internal key users provide first-level support, an internal central team of Superusers and BCusers provides second-level support, and an external partner provides third-level support. The system is validated and maintained by a dedicated internal validation team, with all upgrades and changes planned, tested, documented and validated to meet European Good Manufacturing Practice and US Food and Drug Administration requirements.
Business continuity is provided by a BC/DR solution that continuously replicates and synchronizes AlkaSAP to an isolated secondary location via a dedicated communication link. AlkaSAP exchanges data with DMS Document Management System, CRM Customer Relationship Management, AlkaCDS Chromatography Data System, AlkaT&T Track & Trace, Pixel Proof and BMS Building Management System, and the platform remains in active operation with planned future upgrade and improvement projects.
