ABBANK | Banking and Financial Services | 3709 | $340M | Vietnam | Fortinet | FortiManager | SD-WAN | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022, ABBANK deployed FortiManager as part of a Fortinet Secure SD-WAN implementation to centralize network and security management across its retail banking footprint. The FortiManager deployment is explicitly tied to the SD-WAN initiative and covered 165 branches across 34 cities, one corporate data center, and one data recovery center, with a phased rollout completed in six months for phase one and a planned phase two to extend SD-WAN to another 100 remote ATM sites. Approximately 5,000 employees use the system daily and an in-house security operations team of 12 administers the environment.
The implementation used FortiGate Next Generation Firewalls with built in SD-WAN functionality as the enforcement and edge routing layer, with device sizes and configurations sized per site. FortiManager served as the single pane of management for device provisioning, configuration templates, centralized patching, and automated workflow orchestration. FortiAnalyzer was deployed to deliver in depth reporting and attack surface visibility, supporting incident identification and remediation workflows. Functional capabilities implemented included firewall services, traffic shaping, load balancing, routing based SLA enforcement, sandbox based unknown malware blocking, and traditional attack prevention and anti malware controls.
Architecturally the solution consolidated WAN and security at the branch edge by embedding SD-WAN in FortiGate appliances and extending enterprise grade FortiGate protection to the corporate data center. FortiManager provides real time device tracking and alerts for malfunctioning devices, while automation rules channel specific alerts to the appropriate operational teams. Remote staff connectivity was supported through VPN termination on FortiGate NGFWs with third party token based authentication, preserving secure remote access for distributed users.
Governance and operational changes included centralized change control through the FortiManager console, streamlined provisioning processes to reduce manual device updates, and automated workflow routing to improve incident handling efficiency. ABBANK retained in house ownership of security operations with no reported external systems integrator, and the team required no additional training to operate FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer based workflows. The bank also planned ongoing expansion of Fortinet solutions as new branches and ATMs are added.
ABBANK reported explicit business outcomes from the deployment, including more efficient and effective threat mitigation, simplified administration, improved operational efficiencies, and reduced operating costs. The bank stated investment costs were more than 30 percent lower compared to another vendor and attributed time savings from centralized management to enabling staff to focus on strategic security work.

Alaska Airlines | Transportation | 30536 | $11.7B | United States | Fortinet | FortiManager | SD-WAN | 2019 | n/a |
In 2019, Alaska Airlines implemented FortiManager as part of a Fortinet SD-WAN deployment to secure connectivity and data protection across its operational footprint. The implementation focused on protecting the e-commerce edge, data center and the airline network while delivering Secure SD-WAN capabilities alongside next generation firewall functions.
The deployment bundle included FortiGate, FortiAnalyzer, FortiAuithenticator, FortiClient, FortiExtender, FortiManager, FortiSwitch, FortiWiFi and FortiGuard Services, with FortiManager serving as the centralized orchestration and configuration plane. FortiAnalyzer provided centralized logging and reporting, FortiAuithenticator handled authentication and identity services, and FortiClient extended endpoint protection and posture enforcement across distributed sites.
Operational scope encompassed protection for over 44 million passengers, 23,000 employees and approximately 1200 daily flights, with coverage across the e-commerce edge, corporate data center and airline network operations. The implementation delivered single pane of glass visibility across locations, enabling network operations and security teams to monitor Secure SD-WAN and firewall telemetry from a unified management layer.
Governance and rollout emphasized simplified configuration, management, authentication and reporting, and the solution was designed for ease of deployment to distributed locations. The explicit customer benefits realized included the ability to secure from the e-commerce edge to the data center, simplified operational management, and streamlined authentication and reporting workflows.

Alcampo | Retail | 19600 | $4.8B | Spain | Fortinet | FortiManager | SD-WAN | 2024 | n/a |
In 2024, Alcampo deployed FortiManager as part of a Fortinet Secure SD-Branch rollout within its SD-WAN strategy. The deployment retained the existing multi-protocol label switching infrastructure because of existing telecommunications contracts and tight short-term deadlines, while adopting a software-defined wide area network architecture to enable future transport flexibility.
Alcampo’s selection hinged on integration, centralized management, visibility into both network communications and cyberthreats, and operating cost. The Fortinet Secure SD-Branch implementation included FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall with integrated SD-WAN functionality, FortiSwitch LAN switching, FortiAP wireless access, FortiManager for centralized policy and device lifecycle management, FortiAnalyzer for extended logging and analytics, FortiClient endpoint protection, and FortiAuthenticator for expanded authentication capabilities.
Operationally, FortiManager was used to provide centralized visibility, ongoing monitoring, and automation-driven provisioning and change management for FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiAP across all sites in the entire WAN. FortiLink extended FortiGate network and security capabilities to the access edge, presenting FortiSwitch and FortiAP as logical firewall extensions to enable discovery and enforcement at access devices. FortiOS intrusion prevention system capabilities were used to apply virtual patching for vulnerable IoT devices, leveraging real-time threat intelligence from FortiGuard Labs to tag at-risk devices and implement compensating controls on FortiGate.
Governance and operational workflow shifted toward centralized control and proactive operations, with Alcampo’s communications, information systems and cybersecurity team moving from reactive incident handling to anticipatory monitoring and planning. FortiAnalyzer extended analytics to support end-to-end traffic analysis and future compliance requirements, enabling the team to triangulate issues from user to application server and improve incident diagnosis.
Outcomes reported by Alcampo included an approximate 30 percent reduction in both network operating expenses and the total time spent on daily operations. The deployment established a secure and scalable foundation for future refreshes of smaller supermarkets and ongoing growth in IT and network service demand.
