Capital One Banking and Financial Services 76300 $39.1B United States Oracle Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning Workforce Planning 2014 n/a
In 2014 Capital One implemented Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning as part of its Workforce Planning footprint for the Finance organization. The implementation targeted budgeting, forecasting and workforce scenario modeling across subsidiaries within the finance function. The environment included Hyperion Essbase 11.1.2.2, Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2, Hyperion Financial Reporting 11.1.2.2, Oracle Database 11g, Windows Server 2008, Hyperion Smartview and Essbase Utilities. The project created Budgeting and Forecasting applications using Hyperion Planning Classic and initialized the Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning application for labor planning. Development work modified labor web forms and business rules to calculate salary and bonus according to company formulas, updated Transfer Employee forms, and customized dimensions, smart lists and UDAs after workforce initialization. Developers built SYM and ASYM data forms, composite data forms, task lists and calculation scripts, and defined business rules with run-time prompts and menu lists to support end user data entry. On the architecture side the deployment used both BSO and ASO Essbase databases, with a transparent partition created for the ASO cube as a target for BSO source cubes to enhance reporting. Performance tuning and optimizations were executed for data and dimension loads, calculations and overall Essbase performance using techniques such as resetting databases, grouping sparse member combinations, parallel calculations, cache management, two-pass calculations and buffer and precision adjustments. Automated outline load utilities and rules files were developed for data and metadata load, and Windows scheduled tasks were used for operational scheduling. Governance and rollout included full lifecycle activities from requirements gathering and functional specification analysis through development, parallel testing and migration from development to production. The program delivered design documents, conducted workshops and end user training across subsidiaries, coordinated offshore sessions and used Shared Services for provisioning and allocations. Operational responsibilities included monthly Hyperion backups, month-end tie-out support to financial controllers and ongoing mentoring and guidance to junior and offshore developers.
CarMax Retail 30000 $26.5B United States Oracle Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning Workforce Planning 2012 n/a
In 2012 CarMax implemented Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning to formalize headcount and cost forecasting within corporate FP&A. The implementation of Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning sits alongside Hyperion Planning to support integrated SG&A budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and annual personnel planning across the enterprise. Configuration focused on workforce modeling and compensation planning capabilities, including driver based headcount models, role level salary and labor cost templates, and scenario planning for new store openings. The deployment supported month end close inputs and quarterly forecast cycles, enabling standardized workforce assumptions to flow into the companys SG&A and new store spend plans. Integrations were centered on tight coupling with Hyperion Planning, with data feeds between workforce models and FP&A budget ledgers to align headcount assumptions to financial line items. Operational coverage included the FP&A organization in Richmond, VA, corporate finance teams responsible for SG&A, and analysts producing new store profitability and three year strategic spend plans. Governance and process changes were implemented to embed the tool into senior management review cadences, with FP&A leading financial review meetings and producing monthly executive committee and quarterly board presentations. Workflow rules and review cycles were used to manage scenario approvals and maintain consistency of workforce assumptions across forecasting and planning processes.
CDW Corporation Professional Services 15100 $21.4B United States Oracle Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning Workforce Planning 2013 n/a
In 2013, CDW Corporation implemented Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning to support its Financial Planning and Analysis function and to centralize headcount and labor cost modeling. The deployment emphasized custom Hyperion Planning applications for both Income Statement and Workforce Planning scenarios and was administered by a Senior Financial Analyst and Hyperion Technical Lead. Configuration and automation work included development of Calc Scripts and Business Rules, creation of Excel templates for budget uploads, and maintenance of webforms within the Enterprise Performance Management System workspace. The administrator authored DOS shell scripts to automate repetitive tasks, tested end-to-end workflows, and kept online user interfaces current to streamline data entry and reconciliation. Integrations focused on managing cross-system data transfers and maintaining hierarchical structures through Hyperion EAS, enabling consistent data loads into Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning. The implementation supported budgeting cycles, headcount modeling, and income statement planning processes used by the Financial Planning and Analysis department. Governance and process changes encompassed developing and delivering user curriculum on Hyperion functionality and best practices, instituting regular hierarchy maintenance, and collaborating with business users to refine calculation logic and upload processes. These governance activities formalized workflows across planning cycles and reduced common user errors. Documented operational outcomes included streamlined data reporting, simplified uploads back into the planning system, and increased individual productivity among users, driven by automation, standardized templates, and targeted training.
PPG Industries Manufacturing 50000 $18.2B United States Oracle Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning Workforce Planning 2013 n/a
PPG Industries implemented Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning in 2013. The deployment installed Oracle Hyperion 11.2.3 on an Oracle Exalytics Box and established a global footprint architecture to centralize Workforce Planning and workforce budgeting workflows in finance and HR. The implementation configured core Hyperion Planning modules, with explicit emphasis on the workforce planning module, APEX and PSPB capabilities, and EPMA relational repositories to feed front end applications. Administrators created both Aggregate Storage (ASO) and Block Storage (BSO) Essbase applications, tuned outlines to balance dense and sparse dimensions, and designed transparent partitions between ASO and BSO to support complex forecast and budget processes. Metadata and data integration workstreams used Oracle Data Integrator, creating Planning and Essbase Knowledge Modules to load metadata and transactional data, automate dimension builds, and issue email notifications. The team automated financial close and data load processes using MaxL scripts, batch scripts and scheduling with Autosys, ODI, Control M and Unix, and produced over 50 outputs implemented as Hyperion Financial Reports and OBIEE dashboards alongside Smart View and Excel Add-In access. Governance and operational controls were implemented through Hyperion Shared Services and DRM, including account and cost center hierarchies, property definitions to support HFM, Planning and Essbase, dynamic member lists, and role based security. Additional operational responsibilities included Essbase DBA activities such as performance tuning, backup and restore, incremental ASO loads, disaster recovery planning for the Hyperion environment, Java API utilities for member and alias reporting, and ongoing support and migration of planning applications, HFM apps, business rules and reports.
