American Airlines Transportation 136900 $54.2B United States O.C. Tanner O.C. Tanner Culture Cloud Employee Recognition and Rewards Management 2018 n/a In 2018 American Airlines implemented O.C. Tanner Culture Cloud, an Employee Recognition and Rewards Management application to expand and unify recognition offerings across its workforce of roughly 100,000 employees worldwide. The implementation established a centralized platform to make peer to peer and leader recognition more accessible and measurable, and it set the foundation for the Nonstop Thanks recognition experience that launched in 2019. The O.C. Tanner Culture Cloud deployment was configured to support multiple recognition modalities, including eCards, points based awards, a broader selection of redeemable awards, mobile app access and a group upload capability. The platform was used to add recognition categories and configure award catalogs, and it supported automated workflows for mass recognition events and generation of year of service yearbooks. Operational coverage included frontline flight operations, customer service and reservations, HR recognition and engagement teams, and payroll support staff, with use cases ranging from recognition of flight attendants for customer care to cross function acknowledgements when one team assisted another. Leaders in hubs such as Chicago O’Hare and regional centers including Raleigh and San Antonio used mobile recognition to acknowledge employees who could not be reached in person. Governance and rollout were driven by feedback gathered from team members across the airline and coordinated by the recognition and engagement team working with O.C. Tanner to configure the system and expand recognition taxonomies. Adoption programs emphasized leader behaviors, encouraging people leaders to send eCards and use group uploads, and by the end of 2020 every single people leader had used the program at least once. Reported outcomes include 78 percent of employees logging into the platform and more than 423,000 recognitions issued, equating to approximately 4,700 recognition moments per day, 196 per hour and three per minute, and the platform supported initiatives such as vaccination recognition and retiree yearbooks. The implementation sustained employee connection during the Covid pandemic and reinforced leader team relationships through distributed recognition activities.
American Airlines Transportation 136900 $54.2B United States Qualtrics Qualtrics EmployeeXM Employee Experience 2019 n/a In 2019, American Airlines implemented Qualtrics EmployeeXM to run team-member surveys and centralize experience management across HR processes. The deployment uses Qualtrics EmployeeXM in the Employee Experience category to capture lifecycle feedback, pulse surveys, and structured employee sentiment data. Qualtrics EmployeeXM was configured for survey orchestration, feedback capture, and experience analytics, leveraging standard Employee Experience capabilities such as survey design, automated distribution, reporting dashboards, and closed loop case creation for HR follow up. Configuration emphasized integration with HR workflows to trigger surveys at key lifecycle events and to route issues into HR case management. The implementation integrated with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central for workforce data and with SAP Concur for contextual travel and expense experience signals, enabling survey triggers and population synchronization across systems. Integrations supported enterprise HR teams and the broader workforce survey program, tying survey metadata to employee profile attributes maintained in Employee Central. Governance was placed within HR experience management teams, coordinating survey cadence, role based access to Qualtrics EmployeeXM dashboards, and alignment with ongoing SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Concur rollouts. The setup enabled centralized administration of experience programs while allowing localized survey configurations for distinct team member populations.
