Rabobank New Zealand | Banking and Financial Services | 250 | $50M | New Zealand | VMware by Broadcom | VeloCloud VMware NSX SD-WAN | SD-WAN | 2018 |
In 2018, Rabobank New Zealand implemented VeloCloud VMware NSX SD-WAN as part of a Telstra-led regional network upgrade, deploying SD-WAN across more than 90 Rabobank office locations and two data centres in New Zealand and Australia, including 32 regional sites in New Zealand. The program was positioned to strengthen connections between regional branches and Rabobank’s central and global infrastructure while supporting the bank’s focus on rural customers and communities.
The VeloCloud VMware NSX SD-WAN deployment centered on VeloCloud SD-WAN capability, delivering centralized orchestration, application aware routing, bandwidth aggregation and traffic steering to improve application performance and operational agility. Configuration work emphasized edge device provisioning at branch sites, policy based traffic management for critical banking applications and prioritization rules to reduce latency for client request workflows.
Telstra acted as the systems integrator and delivery partner for the SD-WAN solution and the broader connectivity upgrade, coordinating the migration to higher bandwidth fibre internet which replaced the copper footprint at over 90 locations. The solution was integrated into Rabobank’s two regional data centres and connected to its central and global systems to unify WAN connectivity and extend secure, managed links to rural and regional offices.
Governance and rollout were executed as a regional program spanning operations, IT and branch support, with staged site cutovers to minimize business disruption and align network policies across branches. The stated operational outcomes included improved regional connection to central systems, increased bandwidth, improved application performance and greater agility for digital capabilities in the bank’s regional network, supporting faster turnaround times for client requests.

RSPCA Queensland | Non Profit | 415 | $41M | Australia | Deputy | Deputy Scheduling | Workforce Scheduling | 2017 |
In 2017, RSPCA Queensland deployed Deputy Scheduling in the Workforce Scheduling category to centralize rostering and time capture across its diverse animal welfare operations. The initial rollout was trialled through Telstra with targeted manager pilots at the Brisbane head office, and the solution now manages rostering for the organisation's core team of 70 staff alongside 24/7 call centre operations and distributed field activities such as humane officer patrols and intake centre coverage.
Deployment focused on core Workforce Scheduling capabilities, including shift rostering, time and attendance with explicit 24 hour time support, mobile employee scheduling and messaging, and self-service shift offering where staff can nominate for available shifts. The implementation standardized rostering rules and skills-based coverage across previously siloed department processes, reducing manual spreadsheet work and consolidating scheduling workflows into Deputy Scheduling.
Deputy Scheduling was integrated with RSPCA Queensland's new cloud-accessible payroll system, enabling payroll finalisation remotely and resolving prior constraints where payroll access was limited to specific on-site machines. The Telstra-led trial validated the cloud integration and the live payroll handoff, and the timekeeping configuration corrected prior 24 hour time miscalculations so night shifts are accurately captured through to payroll.
Governance and operational process changes included enforcing the existing notification cut-off for shifts, previously handled via manual reconciliation up to ten days before the new month, while shifting rostering ownership so a single administrator can now produce monthly rosters that formerly required two people several days of work. The Deputy Scheduling deployment increased transparency for managers who can see real-time roster edits, and it aligned rostering practices with certified agreement notification requirements.
Outcomes reported by RSPCA Queensland are concrete and operational, including a reduction in rostering administration, the ability to finalise wages on the move via cloud payroll integration, corrected 24 hour time tracking for late night shifts, and higher employee engagement through the Deputy mobile app for roster visibility, messaging and shift bids. These operational improvements freed staff time to focus on core animal welfare activities and volunteer coordination rather than manual payroll and rostering administration.

SA Department for Education | Government | 32935 | $3.1B | Australia | Palo Alto Networks | Palo Alto Firewall | Web Application Firewalls (WAF) | 2020 |
In 2020 SA Department for Education implemented Palo Alto Firewall within a Web Application Firewalls (WAF) program following an open tender, engaging Palo Alto Networks as the vendor and Telstra Purple as the implementation partner. The engagement was positioned to protect the South Australian public education estate, and the deployment narrative centers on a unified Palo Alto Firewall architecture across the school network.
The technical rollout included Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall NGFW units deployed to individual schools, combined with integrated Cloud-Delivered Security Services such as URL Filtering, Threat Prevention, DNS Security, GlobalProtect VPN, and WildFire malware detection services. The implementation configured the Palo Alto Firewall to enforce network level and policy driven protections, and to surface threat telemetry for centralized monitoring.
Operational coverage spanned state schools and the department control plane, with centralised firewall services provisioned for small schools and kindergartens to reduce on-site support requirements. Telstra Purple delivered implementation and deployment services, coordinating device provisioning, policy templates, and central management for distributed sites.
Governance was constructed in collaboration with Palo Alto Networks, producing a strategic cyber solution, security posture, and an environment roadmap to guide future configuration and policy rollout. Explicit outcomes included comprehensive protection of the school network against external threats and alleviation of the need for additional technical support staff at individual schools.
